I hardly blog bc I don't want to feed into the trap that Rachel describes. That said, I want people to read this, too and benefit from her life experiences. A must read if you live on your smartphone or the Internet.

Defriending Facebook Rachel Ruff 9780991381821 Books Reviews

I personally know and was a part of the scenarios that Ruff describes, much of the story was made up for her book. Rachel Ruff had a very bad drug habit along with her husband Karl. She hurt a lot of people, and made up a lot of lies about the characters that she wrote about. It is sad that she wrote a "fake" book to try and cover up her real issues.
social media addict? Pick it up! It will help you get your life back.
Our society has become addicted to social media and “little machines” – computers, ipads, cellphones. It is astounding. Look around and notice how unaware people are of what is around them and missing all of it. All kinds of addictions fester and explode. Well-written, this book paints a sad story of addiction. It’s a wake up call book, but all wake up calls include a glimmer of hope.
Rachel Ruff's 'Defriending Facebook' highlights a problem that is becoming universal and almost unspoken—social media addiction. It is very timely of her to inert her voice to educate and enlighten us all on our secret addictions to our devices and social media outlets. This book will cause you to ask bigger questions of yourself, your friends, your society, and our future as a whole. If you are looking for a fun, easy read that will also cause you to think, this book is perfect. Highly recommended!
The author writes with a charming candor that makes you want to be her a friend within the first few pages. The book discusses a few subject matters I was interested in, and as an avid consumer of memoirs, it's important for me as a reader, to hear the author's authentic voice. Ruff's clarity and self-depricating humor affirm she pulled no punches in telling this story. This book is not just an entertaining memoir, but is also a useful guide for auditing one's own social media habits for signs of dependancy.
"Defriending Facebook" is a critically important book in the digital age. Rachel Ruff's story reminds us of the importance of maintaining real relationships and not getting caught up in the virtual digital world. She describes in compelling detail her slide into addiction, and the terrific struggle to rise from it. The book is both a self-help book, an object lesson and a great story of insight and healing. Whether or not you are on Facebook, whether or not you have a problem with Facebook, you will find this book a fascinating read.
The premise of this book is a good one but unfortunately the writer doesn't delve very deeply into her behavior before or after leaving FB. Rather, the before and after seem kind of similar although the message and means have changed--the writer is still mostly interested in presenting a certain facade instead of digging deep into why she has to present a facade at all.
I hardly blog bc I don't want to feed into the trap that Rachel describes. That said, I want people to read this, too and benefit from her life experiences. A must read if you live on your smartphone or the Internet.
